Savannah Clark Guthrie was born in Melbourne, Australia on December 27th, 1971. Her father was working in Australia at the time, but the family returned to the United States and settled in Tucson, Arizona two years later. She went to Amphitheater High School in Tucson, Arizona.

Later, she went to the University of Arizona and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. She also obtained a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2002. Savannah Guthrie married Mark Orchard, a presenter for BBC News, in 2005; however, the couple divorced four years later. Currently, she is in a relationship with political consultant Michael Feldman who is affiliated with the Democratic party. In 2016, Guthrie and Feldman married.

That year, she gave birth to her first kid. In 2016, Savannah Guthrie had a second kid with Feldman. Savannah Guthrie suffered a ruptured retina in 2019 when her son thrust a toy into her eye during playtime. After undergoing extensive treatment, she was able to resume working in 2020.
